We are happy to introduce you to Petrčane, a small village located 15 km west of Zadar, set between two promontories or “puntas”, Punta Skala and Punta Radman. Even if shortly we will pass through Nin - a town in the marvellous sandy lagoon where life has been present from Neolithic times. It was raised to the level of urbanity in the Roman period. The cradle of the medieval Croatian state with the smallest cathedral in the world, abundance of Roman and medieval monuments up to the remains of boats from long past cultures. It has kilometres of sandy beaches enjoyed by windsurfers, the ancient sea procession to Our Lady of Zečevo, Salt Museum, summer solstice magic festival, medical and healing mud herbs, “šokol” of Nin (meat delicates)…
Another island closer to Zadar connected to the mainland by a bridge, the island of Vir. The most significant day in the history of the island, which is celebrated even today, is the August 13 in memory of 1908 when 89 Vir families of the time bought their island from the owner, lessees from Venice. Vir has been for dozens of years dedicated to specific tourism as an area for building summerhouses for people from various parts of Croatia, and also Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today from many European countries. Besides the numerous apartments that have been built here, the locals have made a step ahead in tourism with natural beaches in the unconstructed parts of the island.
The island of Ugljan is one of the most picturesque islands in the Zadar archipelago, divided from Zadar by the Zadar channel which is only a few nautical miles wide. Ugljan is covered by olive groves, and the tradition of making olive oil of exceptional quality and aroma is more than 2 thousand years old. This island is a true example of the Mediterranean and the trail race provides you an opportunity to experience all of the magic. Not many can resist what this island has to offer: the crystal blue sea, idyllic coves and colorful fishing ports.
